Tim Hardaway Jr. is officially a member of the New York Knicks… Yes, the New York Knicks! The team who traded the young shooting guard to the Atlanta Hawks in the 2015 NBA Draft
Prior to the Free Agency Period, General Manager Travis Schlenk was adamant about bringing back Hardaway Jr. to the 2017-18 Atlanta Hawks roster by matching the offer sheet considering he was a Restricted Free Agent. However, the New York Knicks offered a 4-year, $71 million dollar contract.
The Hawks delivered official notification to the Knicks earlier Saturday, before the 48-hour deadline passed, according to sources that the offer wouldn’t be matched for Hardaway Jr. ending his tenure in Atlanta after just two seasons.
Hardaway enters his 5th season in the NBA after his breakout year in Atlanta averaging (14.5) Points Per Game, (2.8) Rebounds Per Game, (2.3) Assists Per Game, which were all career highs. The shooting guard also posted a (45%) field goal percentage and (35.7%) from behind the arc.
Thanks for the two memorable years in Atlanta, Tim Hardaway Jr. and best of luck in New York!!
