Falcons and RB Devonta Freeman Agree to Contract Extension

Big money for a big time playmaker

“Eat Free, Eat!” will be added to Falcons fan’s vocabulary for a while now. The Running back for the Atlanta Falcons has agreed to to a 5-year, $41.25M contract extension.

After agreeing with terms with the Falcons, Freeman, is now the leagues highest paid RB. Freeman is guaranteed $22M, $26M over the next 3 years and will receive $15M to sign.

Two-time pro bowler Devonta Freeman, has been nothing but special for the Atlanta Falcons ever since becoming the starter in the 2015 season. Freeman jumped right into the starting spot and became a key factor from the beginning. Freeman is coming off back-to-back 1,000 yard rushing seasons, and has already rushed for 2,383 yards and 23 touchdowns during his 3 seasons in Atlanta. He has also proven to be a threat on the receiving end with 1,265 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns.

The 2016 NFL season was huge for Devonta Freeman as he led the team in the yards from scrimmage category, raking up 1,541 yards. Freeman also finished the season with 7,100 yard rushing games. He averaged 67.4 yards per game and 28.9 receiving yards per game with a high 83.1% catch percentage. Freeman also started all 16 regular season games and showed his toughness each and every down.

Freeman has definitely put in more than enough work to receive a lot of money. Freeman is arguably amongst one of the top 5 RBs in the NFL and he continues to improve his game. He also shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. Freeman is 25 years old and has a crafty play-style that can last long in this league, potentially past age 30.

Freeman and the Falcons both love each other. Freeman stressed plenty of times while waiting for a agreement that he wanted to remain an Atlanta Falcon for the remainder of his career. “This is where I’ve always wanted to be,” Freeman said, while, continuing by stating that his grind to become better doesn’t end here(Will McFadden). The Falcons have mutual feelings about Freeman, “Devonta embodies everything that we are looking for in a Falcon, and we are proud that he’ll be able to spend his career here in Atlanta,” Thomas Dimitroff stated.

Freeman has been highly slept on during his path to the NFL, being a 4th-round draft pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Freeman has showed hustle and high talent, while, also grinding his way to the top with a huge contract with the team he loves. Now all that is left to do is to continue to perform at a high level, which Falcons fans should have no worries about. He has the mentality to become even better and continue to take a lot of pressure off of Matt Ryan and be a key factor in a very good Falcons offense. Freeman’s only concern now is getting his hands on the trophy.
