Falcons look to stay undefeated in Detroit

After an impressive win over the Green Bay Packers in the first ever game in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Atlanta Falcons will look to keep the momentum from their 2-0 start going in Detroit against an also undefeated Lions team. Simply put, Sunday’s win over the Packers was for the most part a total domination. The Falcons were at one point up 31-7 before the Packers clawed their way back in and made the final score more respectable. The defense continued its impressive string of games against future hall-of-famer Aaron Rodgers and the offense looked to have rebounded from a subpar effort against the Bears. Despite all the positives from the win over the Packers; however, the Falcons couldn’t escape unscathed. Early on, offensive tackle Ryan Schraeder went out with a concussion and will not be available against Detriot. Reigning sack leader Vic Beasley suffered a hamstring injury and is expected to be out for a month. Defensive end Courtney Upshaw will also miss the Lions game with an ankle injury.

The Lions have quietly gotten off to a good start this year. They began their season with a comeback win over the Cardinals before going on the road and earning a fairly easy win over a struggling Giants team. Matt Stafford is starting to show why he recently signed the biggest contract in NFL history by playing consistently and showing great leadership as a quarterback. The Lions’ young defense has looked solid for the most part this season, but their first true test will come against the Falcons’ high-powered offense.

Though the Lions do not boast the “star power” of the Falcons, they are still a contender in the NFC and a team that the Falcons should not take lightly. However, I think the Falcons will prevail in a close contest and keep the undefeated start going.

Prediction: Falcons 28, Lions 21
