Georgia pulls off the SEC nail biter.

The Bulldogs of Georgia after being set at #1 in the country look to stay alive in CFB playoff race.

They hosted the Gamecocks of South Carolina in Athens to keep their undefeated streak going. The Dawgs pulled out a tough 24-10 win to move to 9-0 on the season. The Gamecocks played disciplined and fundamentally sound defense although they did not pull out the win.

The defense came out stout as it’s been all season and held the USC offense to an early three and out. The Cocks missed the ensuing Field Goal and Georgia took over. The Dawgs opened up the drive with several passes to move the ball down field. Terry Godwin fumbled a pass across the middle on the 10 yard line to give the ball back to South Carolina.

The defense held south Carolina to another three and out and a punt. The Dawgs then scored on an 8 yard Touchdown run by Sony Michel to make the game 7-0.

South Carolina did not give up hope, they got their offense the ball and they trucked down field. They scored on a 12 yard back shoulder Touchdown pass to B. Edwards to make the score 7-7. The Dawgs charged back with the ball and answered with a 10 yard Touchdown pass from Jake Fromm to Javon Wims. J. Reed picked the ball off before the half to stop a drive forced by South Carolina. 14-7 was the score at halftime.

Later in the 3rd after driving the ball down field after second half kickoff, Jake Fromm threw a 20 yard Touchdown pass to Mecole Hardaman. The score is now 21-7 with the Dawgs on top and looking to finish out the game. Headed to the end of the 3rd quarter the Gamecocks got in field goal position to make the score 21-10 going into the fourth. The very hungry defense of South Carolina tried hard to stop the rush game of the Dawgs but in the end it was to much.

The dawgs kicked a game clinching field goal after a three and out to make the lead go up to 14. The Gamecocks got yet another opportunity to score and close in on the dawgs. Late in the game J. Bentley threw a game ending interception to Malcolm Parrish to claim the win for the Dawgs.

Jake Fromm threw 16-22 for 196 yards and two touchdowns. Nick Chubb had 20 carries for 102 yards and led all Runningbacks on offense. Sony Michel had a rushing Touchdown. Terry Godwin led all receivers with three receptions for 53 yards. Wims and Hardaman both had touchdown receptions.

The defense played as stout as any team in the country would at #1 only allowing 10 points from South Carolina. The the defense forced two turnovers with interceptions and never let the run game get going. Roquan Smith led the defense with nine total tackles and seven solo tackles. He also had 1.5 tackles for loss. The defense as a whole had two total sacks and almost a sack for a safety.

The Dawgs travel to Auburn Alabama next weekend to face the hungry Tigers of Auburn. The Dawgs look to stay undefeated and stay at the top in the College Football Playoffs Rankings.
