1/22 Falcons Daily Recap: Keanu Neal makes Pro Bowl and Falcons Make a Hire

Every day I will recap what went on in the NFL that had to do with the Falcons.

Keanu Neal Makes Pro Bowl

2nd year safety Keanu Neal was selected to the Pro Bowl today as Malcolm Jenkins made the Super Bowl. This is Keanu Neal’s first Pro Bowl appearance.

This was absolutely deserved for Neal who is quickly becoming the hardest hitting safety in the league but also one of the best safeties. He had 116 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and 1 interception during his second year.Neal  also set a new NFL record for most forced fumbles by a defensive back in his first two seasons with eight.

Falcons Hire Greg Knapp as QB Coach

Knapp will coach for Atlanta after serving as the Denver Broncos QB coach from 2013 to 2016. He will replace Bush Hamdan, who left after the season to be the offensive coordinator at Washington.

Knapp was the Falcons OC from 2004-2006 but was run out of town. He wasn’t great but in this role he won’t be calling plays. I personally love this hire as Quinn has worked with him and Knapp also has Shanahan ties. Knapp will help Ryan adapt more to the offense.

Keith Armstrong Will Remain Special Teams Coach (for now)

Keith Armstrong, the Falcons special teams coach, was interviewed twice for the Cardinals and it looked like they might have gotten him. Instead they went with Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks. That allows Armstrong to stay the special teams coach for the Falcons which I am excited for. Unfortunately this might not be Armstrong’s only interview this year or even the next as Armstrong has been a head coaching candidate for a long time.

No New Uniforms Right Now

Do the Falcons have plans for new uniforms this coming season? Please say yes! Thanks!

Matt: I receive a ton of emails about the uniforms – and it’s no secret that the majority of Falcons fans would love to see the team change uniforms (and go back to some previous looks/color combinations). As of right now, I have not heard anything about uniforms changes for the 2018 season. So, no, there are no official plans to my knowledge.

I would love to see the Falcons change their uniforms up a little bit but Matthew Tabeek of AtlantaFalcons.com squashed those rumors. Hopefully they change them later in the offseason but I don’t see that happening. What color combinations/concept uniforms/old uniforms would you like to see the Falcons bring back? Tweet me @reevesg55 or @AtlSportsHQ with your favorite! I personally like this combination with the gray pants, white jerseys, and red helmets!
