Hawks Weekly Flight: Week 16

Kent Bazemore
Kent Bazemore Game Winner (Boston Herald)

The Hawks are on their way out of the bottom 3 in the league.

This week the Atlanta Hawks they managed to go 2-2 in the four games they played. They managed to get wins over the Minnesota Timberwolves and the New York Knicks, while dropping games to the Charlotte Hornets and the Boston Celtics. The Hawks now sit at 16-37 and are almost out of the bottom 3 which might hurt their draft pick. Lets take a look at all the games this week.

1/29/18 Vs Timberwolves W 105-100

Bazemore continued his impressive showing in this game against a playoff caliber team going for 22 points 4 rebounds and 4 assists. It was a close game all the way, until the end where Teague and Gibson both had silly technical fouls and Atlanta was able to hold off any comeback that the Wolves had. Teague shot 1/12 and had a hard time handling Dennis allowing him to get 18 points and 11 assists. Overall it was a great team win giving them confidence and showing they can compete with anyone.

1/31/18 Vs Hornets L 123-110

The Charlotte Hornets led this game from the opening tip off. Kemba Walker knew he was going have his way like he had did previously last Friday in Charlotte. Walker ended up with 38 points and hit a career high 9 three pointers, Dwight killed us with 20 points and 12 boards. The only  bright spot for the Hawks was of course Bazemore with his 25 point outing while everyone else struggled to get any sort of momentum going. The Hawks were able to cut the deficit down to 1 in the 3rd quarter but couldn’t find a basket to tie or take the lead and allowed the Hornets to maintain the lead and go on into the 4th and pretty much let Walker end the game.

2/2/17 At Celtics 119-110

The Atlanta Hawks came out firing on all cylinders to begin the game and had a 6 point lead after the first quarter. As the game went on the Hawks were able to keep the game close until the 2nd half when they found success in their 3 point shooting which allowed them score 41 3rd quarter points and let them take a 19 point lead into the fourth quarter. Prince and Dennis had great games with Prince setting a carer high in points with 31 and Dennis adding 25. Terry Rozier for the Celtics dropped 31 points on 11-18 shooting and 6-8 from deep, he lead the Celtics charge in the 3rd finding most his success then. Jayson Tatum contributed 27 and Horford put up 17 points 6 boards and 7 assists.

2/4/17 At Knicks 99-96

This was a very evenly matched game with both teams going back and forth and finding  ways to get leads. But ultimately, it was the Hawks that ended up prevailing in the end in a very weird last 3 minutes. It started with Bazemore getting fouled from deep and only getting 2 free throws. Then Tim Hardaway Jr got an and one just to be waived off so Baze could shoot a third free throw to make it a 2 point game. KP split a pair of free throws with a minute left and Hardaway instead of chewing the clock put up an immediate shot which allowed the hawks to come down and Muscala to hit a 3 to make it a one point game with 47 seconds left. The Hawks played great defense and forced O’Quinn to miss a shot and the Knicks bunched up in the paint not allowing anyone to drive allowed Bazemore to hit the game winning three with 7 seconds left. Dennis struggled only shooting 2-16 but finished with 10 points. This was more of a team win and with that everyone played well.

What’s Up Next

2/6 Vs Memphis

The Grizzlies are coming in this game on a 3 game losing streak and the Hawks have a 5 game winning streak against western conference teams so i expect to see the Hawks pull this game out. Prediction: Hawks win 102-97

2/8 At Magic

This matchup will be fun for Hawks and Magic fans because both teams sit at the bottom of the eastern conference and the loser of this game will be who is more dedicated to their tank. I believe we have a better team overall team than Orlando and believe we start a 3 game winning streak. Prediction: Hawks win 106-91

2/9 Vs Cavs

This game is an interesting matchup because the Cavs have been struggling and doesnt look like it will end any time soon but believe that like always JR Smith will find his shot again and lead the Cavs to a victory with Lebron James getting a triple double by the 3rd quarter. Prediction: Cavs win 114-87

2/11 Vs Pistons

Since acquiring Blake Griffin the Pistons have looked like a completely different tem and they are making a run for the 8th seed so it wouldnt shock me if both Drummond and Griffin kill us and blow us out on our home court like they have done so much the past couple years. Prediction: Pistons win 120-81

Record Last Week: 2-2

Total Season Record: 16-37. 14th in the East. 29th in the NBA

Predicted Record This Week: 2-2
