ESPN’s Marc J Spears broke the news on Twitter that the Hawks have indeed traded forward Luke Babbitt (back) to the Miami Heat for a similar forward Okaro White.
Okaro White broke his foot back in November and is likely out until the All Star break. He has only played in 6 games this season and started 4 out of those 6 games. In those 6 games he averaged 3 points and 2 rebounds. He shot 43% from the field and 36% from the 3.
White made his NBA debut in January of last year and has played a total of 41 games. Since then he’s been a decent 38% shooter from the field and 35% from the 3. The 25 year old Florida native looks to add some youth to the Hawks and even open up more minutes for our young guys. It is unclear the exact plan for Okaro going forward as of right now.
This appears to be a straight up player for player trade. We will update the terms of the deal as details are made available.
AJC’s Michael Cunningham has just reported that the Hawks plan to waive forward Okaro White. This appears to be a move to clear some space for players to get more minutes.
