We continue our countdown of memorable moments from the Hawks’ decade-long playoff streak.
#7: Cavs hit 25 3’s
2016 Conference Semifinals, Game 2
After coming up just short in a hard-fought Game 1, the Hawks had a certain amount of optimism coming into Game 2 to try to even up the series. The Cavs, however, had different plans and ended all of that hope before the Hawks could even lace their shoes.
Cleveland nailed an astonishing 8 three-pointers in the first quarter and quickly blew the game open, taking a 36 (not a typo) point lead into halftime.
The Cavs continued the onslaught into the second half, with former Hawk Dahntay Jones hitting the NBA record-breaking 24th three pointer. Cleveland would finish the game with 25 threes and a 123-98 victory. 10 different Cavaliers made a 3 in the victory, with JR Smith nailing 7 of the 25. It’s worth noting that Cleveland once against hit 25 threes against Atlanta in a regular season game in March of 2017.
While this game likely won’t bring back positive memories for Hawks fans, no one can deny that it was certainly was a memorable 3-point clinic by the Cavaliers.
