Who are possible dark horse picks for the Falcons?

Who are some possible under-the-radar players the Falcons could target in the draft?

RJ McIntosh

McIntosh is a player who skied up draft boards with a great junior year racking up 52 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 12.5 TFL. According to PFF, he also had 30 run stops which was 3rd among all 2018 NFL Draft eligible defensive tackles.

He is a quick, versatile lineman who can play as a defensive tackle or a 4-3 defensive end.

He’s an intriguing prospect who the falcons have shown interest in and could very likely be a third or fourth round pick for the Falcons.5FBD281C-9219-4321-91F7-243397FC4FB3

Antonio Simmons

Not many people know about Simmons but as a Tech fan I loved him. A quick defensive end with a great work ethic who rocketed up draft boards (from a UDFA to 6th-7th) thanks to a fantastic pro day. He ran a 4.48 40-yard dahs (T-1 at combine among EDGE players if he was invited) and had 30 reps (2nd at combine among EDGE players if he was invited).

He also had a speed score of 116.6 which is 4th among this years EDGE prospects. He has a good chance to make the roster of any team as a special teams player/backup.

Not necessarily a dark horse as to if he could be picked by the Falcons but more that I think he gets picked earlier, if he does get picked by the falcons, than his current 4th round projection. A talented EDGE player with decent production at Wake Forest could be a viable pick in the second or third considering the loss of Clayborn.

Jacob Martin

Martin is the brother of Jets LB Josh Martin and obviously takes after his brother. Martin had a great senior year at Temple getting 44 tackles, 11.5 TFL, and 8 sacks. Falcons have also shown interest in him which makes me think he’s a possible pick.

Even though Martin isn’t currently projected to get drafted, I think it’s possible the Falcons take him with one of their 7th round picks.

Matt Gono

Another player who had a visit with the Falcons, Gono is a small school offensive line prospect who the Falcons could potentially look for if they want some line depth. He’s a monster of a man (6’4”, 305) who has good technique and could make an impact if the Falcons wanted to go that route. He’s currently projected to go in the 6th-7th rounds so could also easily be the Mr. irrelevant pick for the Falcons.

Greg Senat

Another small school offensive line prospect, Greg Senat is even more of a monster standing at 6’6”, 302 lbs who has extreme athleticism. Although initially thought to be a tight end by his coaches, he moved to tackle and has performed exceptionally there. He is a project but the raw ability is there as well as the athleticism and would be a good late round depth pickup.

Roc Thomas

With Tevin Coleman’s contract ending, a lot of people speculate that the Falcons take a RB in the later rounds to be the third running back this year and a possible 2nd running back next year. Thomas is a great change of pace back who has decent speed and elusiveness. He needs work if the Falcons want him to be their second choice back but as a third back, he is an obvious choice in the later rounds.

DJ Chark

Chark is someone I was very high on before the combine and his combine proved me right. An explosive deep threat wide receiver, Chark could come in and make an immediate impact. What team in the NFC South or even the NFL has a CB3 that can guard a 6’3” wide receiver who ran a 4.34 40-yard dash, is in the 96th percentile in speed score, and the 93rd percentile in Burst score? Not many if any.

He is also a good kick returner which makes him fit Atlanta’s need of a WR who can produce more than Hardy as a WR and replace Roberts in the return game. Chark would be the perfect player for the Falcons to pick in the second round and I’m surprised more people aren’t predicting it.

Nate Wozniak

With the loss of Levine Toilolo and the minimal play from Eric Saubert last year, most analysts and Falcons fans believe this year the Falcons should take a TE. Wozniak is a huge player with great athleticism and decent hands so is a possible late round pick for the Falcons.

Daesean Hamilton

99EAF9AB-10BF-4DA9-B75D-4ABFE0F2ECB8

Hamilton isn’t just an under-the-radar prospect for the Falcons but is underrated by everyone due to being overshadowed in college by teammates Saquon Barkley and Mike Gesicki. The Falcons ar win need of a third wide receiver and have shown interest so it should very possible the Falcons take him in the middle rounds. Unfortunately he has been skying up draft boards recently so he might get taken earlier than expected.
