Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Atlanta Falcons have extended Pro-Bowl quarterback Matt Ryan on a 5 year, $150 million dollar deal. $100 million is guaranteed to the former MVP. The extension makes Ryan the first player in league history to earn $30 million a year.
The upcoming 2018 season was going to be the final year of Ryan’s contract prior to the extension.
Ryan won the NFL MVP award in 2016 and led Atlanta to a Super Bowl that same season. Among Ryan’s career accomplishments are having the most regular season wins by a quarterback in his first 5 seasons, being the fastest player to 40,000 yards, and having the most consecutive games in league history with 200 or more passing yards.
Needless to say, locking Ryan up for the long term was a necessity for the Falcons in this offseason, and it has finally come to fruition.
We will have more details as they emerge.
