The 2017-18 Big 12 Player of the Year sets his sites on the NBA.

Point guard Devonte’ Graham is coming off undoubtedly his best season as a Kansas Jayhawk, averaging over 17 points and 7 assists per game. He led his Jayhawks to a Final Four appearance and won Big 12 Player of the Year, beating out players like Trae Young.

Graham was a dynamic scorer at the college level, scoring 35 points on two different occasions in his senior season. He proved that he has a multitude of different ways to score, using his silky-smooth jump shot as well as his explosiveness when driving to the rim to keep defenders on their toes.

Defense is also one of Graham’s strong suits, as he uses his quick hands and quicker feet to hound whoever he is guarding.

At 6 feet and 2 inches tall and weighing 185 pounds, Graham is a solid size for an NBA point guard.

One area of concern for Graham is his ability to score from mid-range and at the rim. He does not have a consistent floater and he struggles to score around the rim with his left hand. These will both have to improve if he wants to be a productive NBA point guard.

Graham also has a tendency to gamble on defense, which often leads to his man having open shots. This is an area where Hawks point guard Dennis Schroder also struggles, and is criticized heavily for it.

A Sports Illustrated mock draft has Graham being taken with Pick 44 by the Washington Wizards.

If the Hawks were to draft Graham, it would likely come with their second round draft pick. Atlanta might end up needing a new point guard of the future with Dennis Schroder’s future with the team in question, and if that is the case, Graham would make for a smart selection for Atlanta in the second round.
