Iran beat Morocco in the dying seconds of the game through an own goal
Iran and Morocco, the two outsiders in this group came into this game knowing nothing but a win would benefit them. It will be hard for either one of these teams to take points from either Portugal or Spain, so both Iran and Morocco had to get a result in this game. Throughout the match Morocco was the better side. They were the team that had more of the possession and created the better chances, just they failed to take advantage of that. Iran sat back and tried the counter attack Morocco, which worked in this game. A late foul in the 95th minute led to free kick on the side of the box. The ball is crossed in and Moroccan player Aziz Bouhaddouz tried to clear the ball out of the penalty area with a header, his clearance of the ball was poor as his header ended up in the Morocco’s net giving Iran the 1-0 lead. Interesting to note that Iran did not have a shot, let alone a shot on target, during the second half yet they come away with the three points. This win was Iran’s second win at a World Cup; their last win came at the 1998 World Cup against the US when they won 2-1.

Diego Costa would once again equalize for Spain in the 55th minute. Spain would three minutes later take the lead for the first time in this game from a wonderful half-volley strike outside the box by Nacho Fernandez. The game looked like Spain’s for the taking and had the game under control after taking the lead. But in the 88th minute, after a silly foul by Pique, Cristiano Ronaldo scores his third goal of the game from a free kick and tied the game at 3-3.
