In Group F’s Matchday 2, South Korea was on a mission to make their stand against Mexico.
Mexico continued to turn heads at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. After their most recent 1-0 win over highly favored Germany, the Mexican squad was able to handily defeat South Korea by a 2-1 margin. With goals from Carlos Vela and Javier Hernandez aka Chicharito, “El Tri” was up by 2 until a late goal from South Korea found its’ way past Guillermo Ochoa (Mexican Goalkeeper).
Carlos Vela scored the first goal for Mexico via penalty in the 26th minute. This goal was an emotional one for Vela since his grandfather passed away recently, without having the opportunity to watch Vela score. The 2nd goal from Chicharito was the result of a beautiful Irving Lozano assist in the 66th minute and that’s all it took for Mexico to seal the deal.
In the end, South Korea’s late but gorgeous goal was not enough to save them from falling to Mexico.
