Atlanta United left no doubt as to who the Kings of the South are Saturday Evening.

Atlanta United shook off their recent home whoas en route to a 4-0 demolition of Orlando City. It was just the Five Stripes 2nd win in the last 6 home games after previously being virtually untouchable at MBS.

Josef Martinez wasted absolutely no time getting things started. After a failed clearance from the Lions, Josef tapped in his MLS leading 15th goal of the season to send the 72,000 Rowdy 17’s into a frenzy. The world’s largest Soccer crowd of the day (yes, larger than both World Cup games) would have plenty to cheer about all night long.

After the initial goal, Orlando would settle down a bit and even have a few solid scoring opportunities to end the half. The brilliance of Brad Guzan and a magnificent stop from Mikey Ambrose were able to hold off Orlando’s attack. If the Lions were able to get that one to go, we could have been looking at a very different game. Nevertheless, the score was 1-0 at the half.

Orlando’s night would turn down right Droopy in the 2nd half. Atlanta would tack on three goals (55′,57′,78) by Miguel Almiron (x’s 2) and Ezequel Barco. Orlando would have no answer and when the the final whistle blew the score was 4-0. Atlanta United has still never lost to the Lions.

Hawks first round pick Trae Young as well as a host of other Hawks were clearly entertained.

The win solidifies Atlanta’s position at the top of the Table with 38 Points (11-4-3). Our United find themselves 6 Points clear of NYCFC (31 Points) for first in the East and 5 Points clear of FC Dallas and Sporting KC (32 Points) for the Supporters’ Shield. As of now, Atlanta is also on track to automatically qualify for the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League. Orlando suffered it’s 8th straight defeat (6-1-10) and continues their free-fall in the Eastern Conference.
