Trae Young, the team is yours now.
In a move that many fans were anticipating, the Atlanta Hawks have traded point guard Dennis Schroder to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Carmelo Anthony and a 2022 first round pick, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Anthony will be waived by the team. Mike Muscala was also shipped off to the Philadelphia 76ers in the deal, which will bring Sixers’ forward Justin Anderson to Atlanta.
The 2022 pick acquired from Oklahoma City is lottery-protected, meaning if it lands in the top 14, it will become two second-round picks.
This marks the end of Schroder’s up-and-down, five-year tenure with the Hawks and also means we have to say goodbye to fan favorite Mike Muscala. However, this move makes it clear that newly-drafted point guard Trae Young will have the opportunity to see significant minutes this season and learn on the fly as an NBA player.
