It was an eventful day off the field/court for Atlanta teams.
Although there was only one Atlanta team in action yesterday, there was still plenty of fireworks to recap.
Hawks trade Schroder, Muscala
The Dennis Schroder era is officially over. The Hawks traded the streaky point guard to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Carmelo Anthony and a lottery-protected 2022 first round pick. Anthony will be waived by Atlanta.
The trade also sent fan favorite forward Mike Muscala to Philadelphia to join the 76ers. In the deal, Sixers’ rotational forward Justin Anderson will join the Hawks.
Falcons won’t restructure Julio’s deal
To many fans’ relief, Jeff Schultz of the Athletic reported that the Falcons won’t be renegotiating star receiver Julio Jones’s contract this season. Jones caused a stir this offseason by sitting out of mandatory minicamp in hopes of restructuring his deal, which still has three years remaining on it.
However, the Falcons didn’t budge and now the ball is in Jones’s court as to whether he will show up for training camp, which begins in a week.
Dream top Liberty
The Atlanta dream picked up their 14th win of the season last night, beating the New York Liberty 82-68.
Renee Montgomery and Tiffany Hayes led the squad with 24 and 20 points, respectively.
Coming up tonight
The Braves will be back in action to open up the second half of the season in the nation’s capital against the Nationals. The first pitch will be thrown at 7:05 PM.
