Braves acquire relief pitcher in trade with Baltimore
It was announced Sunday afternoon right after Sean Newcomb’s (almost) no-hitter that the Braves has acquired relief pitcher Brad Brach from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for an international signing slot.
Brach, the former 42nd round pick in 2008, was drafted by the Padres and made his MLB debut in 2011 with them. He was then traded to Baltimore in November of 2013.
Brach steadily improved with Baltimore, earning him a trip to the All Star Game in 2016 when he 92 strikeouts and a 2.05 ERA. He posts a career 3.16 ERA with 460 career strikeouts.
Brach is the veteran relief pitcher that Atlanta needs to mentor the young pitchers in the bullpen. With the trade deadline in less than 48 hours, the Braves might look to make more bullpen trades as well as a trade for a starting pitcher.
