Falcons @ Jets Preview

RISE UP Falcons Fans! It is GAMEDAY for our Falcons!

It has been a long off-season but the wait is finally over! The Falcons kick off their preseason schedule with a trip up to New Jersey to take on the New York Jets and their first-round pick, Sam Darnold.

Falcon fans are eager to see their own first round pick, Calvin Ridley, and how he fits into the offense. Ridley may not play too much but we should see a couple ways that Steve Sarkisian plans on using him in the offense.

The biggest area Falcons fans should turn to is on the defensive side and how the team will replace Dontari Poe. Terrell McClain is slated to start beside Grady Jarrett but there certainly will be some competition for that spot. McClain is still the favorite to win the job but 3rd Round pick, Deadrin Senat who earned the nickname “Baby Grady”, will look to make a push for that spot as well as Jack Crawford.

Staying on the defensive side, it will be interesting to see how Duke Riley has improved. This kid is full of talent and he didn’t live up to expectations his Rookie season, but I expect a big season for him and he will show some signs of a breakout year this preseason. He is currently atop the depth chart at LOLB.

Going back to the offense, we all know that the Falcons have one of the best running back duos in the NFL with Freeman and Coleman. Unfortunately, Coleman is a free agent after this season and will be looking for a starting job so there is a chance that he leaves the falcons after this season. Ito Smith, who is 3rd on the depth chart and was the Falcons 4th round pick this season, is a guy who could be the replacement. He hails from Southern Miss and has the ability to be an explosive, breakaway type back. Expect to see him on the field a lot tonight.

For the Jets, while I expect Darnold to see the field for a half, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Teddy Bridgewater for a good bit of drives. The Jets have considered trading him so they can and should showcase him for those teams that are interested. Bridgewater, before his horrific injury, was coming off a season that garnered him some MVP consideration.

There should be plenty of things for Falcons fans to look for in tonights game, to keep them entertained.

Falcons fans the wait is over, it is time to RISE UP!
