The Atlanta Dream faced off against the Los Angeles Sparks and defeated them 79-73. This was the first game without one of their star players in Angel McCoughtry as she was injured in the game prior to this versus the Las Vegas Aces. Later on, it was reported that Angel McCoughtry had suffered torn ligaments in her knee and she will be out for the season.

This comes as a huge blow for the Dream as this was McCoughtry first season back since taking last season off to deal with nagging injuries. The Dream undoubtedly have enough depth to deal with this loss in their lineup but one thing you can’t replace is her leadership. Someone is going to have to replace her scoring ability in the starting lineup because she was one of Dream’s top scorers this season.

Enter Tiffany Hayes who earlier this week signed an extension and has been tearing it up all season. Since entering the league in 2012 she has been the yin to McCoughtry’s yang. Now with McCoughtry out it is time for Tiffany Hayes to become the alpha for the Atlanta Dream.

Hayes is averaging 17.7 points, 2.6 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game in 28.5 minutes per contest. Those numbers are sure to increase when the playoffs begin for the Dream. She has been stellar in each game this season and if the league hasn’t taken notice yet they will when the playoffs start.

Brittney Sykes will take McCoughtry’s place in the lineup as she deals with her injury. Sykes has been playing extremely well as one of the first players to come off the bench this season.

The Dream are 20-10 on the season and look to increase that win total in their final 3 games of the regular season. They clinched a playoff spot with their win versus the Aces Tuesday. Head coach Nicki Collen has one of the best records by a rookie coach since the league began. She certainly has the Atlanta Dream looking and playing like a contender.

The Dream take on the Dallas Wings Saturday at 2 PM in what will be their final home game of the regular season. If you want to see some exciting basketball look no further than the Atlanta Dream as they are one of the hottest teams in the WNBA right now. The Atlanta Dream are 2nd in WNBA standings will have a bye when the playoffs begin. Be sure to support our Atlanta Dream as they keep showing us why they are here to stay.
