Falcons held scoreless in first preseason game

The Atlanta Falcons were finally back in action Friday night against the New York Jets after a very long offseason. There are many high hopes for this Falcons team coming into the season such as the star-powered offense and young, talented defense. However, might have to wait another week to be seen.

Matt Ryan started the game and threw one pass, completing it to rookie wide receiver Calvin Ridley, his only catch of the game. Matt Schaub threw a perfect 9/9 for 54 yards. Benkert played the majority of snaps at QB for Atlanta throwing 9/17 for 125 yards and 1 interception. Aside from Devin Gray’s 4 catches for 83 yards, including a great 30 yard reception, it was a day to forget for the offense. On defense, the lone standout was Damontae Kazee, who seemed to be everywhere last night with 11 total tackles, 8 more than anyone else on the team.

The Falcons seem to have a lot to work on both offensively and defensively when they come home for the Chiefs next week and will look to improve their struggles.

Braves back in first after offensive rampage

Kevin Gaussman took the mound for the first time at SunTrust Park last night and did not disappoint. He went 8 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 run, while striking out 8 batters. Sobotka also made his MLB debut pitching a scoreless inning and striking out a batter. I could go on for days about how great the Braves played last night, but I’ll highlight a list of a few great things from last night:

  • Gaussman- 8 innings, 1 run, 8 strikeouts in home debut
  • Acuña- 3/5
  • Albies- 3 walks
  • Markakis- 2/3, 2 doubles
  • Camargo- 4/5, 2 doubles, 2 RBI
  • Inciarte- 2/4, 4 RBI
  • Sobotka- 1 inning, 1 strikeout, 0 hits in MLB debut
  • TIED IN FIRST WITH PHILLIES

It was a bitter sweet day in Atlanta with the Falcons not able to show the city what this team is capable of, but the Braves showed they can compete with the best in the NL, and more importantly potentially win the division!
