You may not know, but Ricardo Allen is the voice of the Falcons defense. He keeps the defense in check and erases anything coming his way. With comparisons to Earl Thomas, Allen has been a key to the Falcons defense improving every year.
2017 was probably Allen’s best season as a Falcon as he truly played the eraser role on defense. His job is to cancel anything out in the air, but he showed value making tackles near the line of scrimmage. His open field tackling improved and helped the Falcons in multiple games last season.
When Ricardo Allen was drafted, he was originally a CB. The staff switched him to a safety, which seemed like a better fit. Well last year, Allen went back to CB for a couple of games due to some injuries in the secondary. He fared well and showed many people that he was versatile and can be put anywhere despite his size.
He and Deion Jones have been great leaders for the defense, and they should only go up from here. With Allen’s energy and leadership on the field, you should see nothing but an improvement from the Falcons side of the defense.
You can see the Falcons value him as a leader and player with the contract he received in the offseason. Arthur Blank thinks that like Julio, Allen will be a Falcon for life.
The #Falcons have agreed to a 3-year extension worth $19.5mil for S Ricardo Allen, source said. Another key part of their group of young players.
