He’s becoming one of the best linebackers in the league.
We hear about Luke Kuechly being the best linebackers in the league. Look no further, but in a couple of years, there may be an argument about that. Deion Jones is going into his 3rd season, and he’s exceeded expectation ever since he was drafted.
There was a lot of pressure on Jones coming into his rookie season since he was thrown into the fire immediately. Throwing him into that flame may have shaped him to be the player he is today. Last season he showed he can do it all for the Falcons. Like Keanu Neal, he brings the most out of being fast and physical.
With Jones speed, he could cover almost anybody on the field. He can keep up with almost any running back in the league. He showed last season that Alvin Kamara and Christian McCaffrey are no problem for him when they come out of the backfield. He’s also a great player in coverage, and you can see by the way he’s all over the field. PFF rated him as the best coverage linebacker in 2017. He was also 1 of the 4 linebackers to allow less than 8 yards per completion, which is a testament to how fast he is to attack the ball and get the tackle.
For him only being in his 3rd year, Jones has the potential to be so much better. He’s already doing things that an elite linebacker would do in the league, all he needs is a little more experience.
