Atlanta Sports Weekend Recap

This weekend the Atlanta Braves completed a sweep on the Philadelphia Phillies to clinch the NL East division. On Saturday, Folty had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning until Herrera was able to single to break it up. Braves went on to win the game 5-3 and celebrate winning the division at home. Sunday felt like a hangover lineup for Atlanta when most of the starting lineup had a well deserved day off. Freeman and Markakis both exited after their first at bat.

For the first time since 2013 the Braves are going to the playoffs and fans should really be behind this team in October. The team is still a young team but the past couple years with veteran leadership that’s a great mix. The atmosphere right now is electric and everyone should want to be apart of this ride this year and years to follow.

The Atlanta United were able to beat Real Salt Lake by a score of 2-0, with goals coming from Villalba and Gressel. United still sits atop the east with 63 points after 30 games. For a more in-depth recap of the United game check out Phil’s recap here.

UGA beat the Missouri Tigers 43-29, it was a tale of two halfs. uga defense was flying around early creating turnovers and controlling the game while both offenses struggled to find any omentum in the first half. In the second half both teams put up a combined 45 points and allowed Georgia to control the game and take a road win in conference play to advance to 4-0 and stay at the number 2 spot in the rankings. UGA has looked like the team that team the could very well be playing in the national championship again and possibly win it all this year.

Georgia Tech

The Yellow Jackets nightmare followed into this game with Clemson coming into town and had a hard time holding onto the football which has been the story of the season the past 3 games. Clemson capitalized on every opportunity and won the game 49-21. Trevor Lawrence had no problem dicing up the defense and had 176 yards and 4 Tds. Marshall lead everyone with 47 yards and a tochdown. With the game pretty much being over in the second half we saw Tobias Oliver again and he had flashes of playing well but also showed he’s not entirely read for the triple option offense.

The Falcons dropped a close game to the New Orleans Saints 43-37 in overtime. The offense looked great again behind Matt Ryan’s huge game where he had 374 passing yards and 5! touchdowns (Tying a career high). Injuries hurt the Falcons again with Ricardo Allen going down with an Achilles injury it looked like in the 4th quarter. The defense struggled to stop the check down passes again allowing Kamara to get over 100 yards receiving and set up the Saints game winning drive that seemed was inevitable. The Falcons host the Bengals next sunday where the Bengals are coming in from a loss from the Panthers where they lost 31-21.
