One of the Atlanta Hawks pleasant surprises of the 2017-18 season was the play of rookie PF John Collins. Coach Budenholzer had a reputation for not trusting his younger players as much as the veterans but it was clear he saw the potential in Collins. Last year Collins averaged 10.5 Pts, 7.3 Trb, and 1.3 Ast in 24 minutes of play. Unfortunately to start the 2018-19 season Collins will be unable to play after rolling his ankle in a preseason game and having to have a non surgical procedure done on it. It is speculated that he will only miss about 3 games but there is absolutely no reason to rush him back and have the ankle get reinjured. Once healthy I fully expect Collins to become a team leader and also set the pace for incoming Coach Pierce’s offense. My projections for the year for Collins will be 16 Pts, 8 Trb, and 2 Ast in roughly 28-30 minutes of play. Collins has the potential to do much more than that and become a true NBA superstar though so there is no reason why these projection can’t be shattered.
