Kent Bazemore Shines In Hawks Historic Comeback Win Over Dallas

Baze 32 point night helps lead Hawks back from 26 point deficit (ClutchPoints)

   The Hawks versus Mavericks game, has been hyped all year over the Trae Young – Luka Doncic draft trade. Many fans question if we did the right thing and looked to this game as some kind of relief. This was the Hawks only primetime game on ESPN and all the lights were on the two rookies. The Hawks started the game very sluggish and ended the first half by 20 but with fast pace and Bazemore’s career high, the Hawks came back late in the fourth and got their second win of the season.

The Hawks started the first quarter strong but failed to find any rhythm or defense. Defense has been a major problem this year and they continue to start slow opening games. Dallas led by 20 after the first quarter shooting 65%. The Hawks shot 33% and Trae Young didn’t have a single point.

The second quarter the Hawks did a 180 and showed a resilient effort with Trae Young on the bench most of the quarter with 3 fouls. The Hawks showed most success running Bazemore at point guard and using the Hack a Deandre method to help lower the deficit. Bazemore had a huge 14 points in the second quarter and they went into the half down by 10 points(48-58).

The Hawks continued the effort with a 34-9 run halfway in the 3rd and lowered the deficit to one point.The quarter was filled with flashy dunks by Bazemore, pin point passes from Trae Young and even a 3 from Dwayne Dedmon. But even with this back and forth pace, The Hawks still never got the lead and they ended the quarter sluggish down 7 points losing 87 to 80.

The Hawks started the fourth strong and got the lead at the 4 minute mark after Trae Young was fouled on a 3 point shot. Fans finally got the showdown they were looking for with Trae and Doncic trading baskets and assists. Bazemore was everywhere for the Hawks in the fourth,attacking off the dribble every chance he got. The Mavericks were clearly too tired to guard him. Coach Pierce’s motion offense really wore out Dallas. You can even see Mavericks players try to get in to Trae Young’s head late in the fourth with fake handshakes at the free throw line. The Hawks finally extended the lead pass 1 point with 2 minutes left and never surendered it. Bazemore and Trae led the Hawks to a 12-3 run to close the fourth and the Hawks won 111-104. Bazemore had a career high 32 points and Trae had 17 point,5 assist and 4 rebounds. Mavericks player Luka Doncic had 21 points and 9 rebounds.
