Yellow Jackets Take Care of Virginia Tech 49-28

Tobias Oliver tore up VT Defense for 215 yards (USAToday)

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were able to beat the Hokies by a final score of 29-28. The Yellow Jackets had a change at QB to start the game when they had Tobias Oliver start instead of Taquon Marshall.

Another weeknight game was successful for Tech. They rushed the ball for a total of 464 yards on the ground and no yards passing.

Tobias Oliver showed once again that he’s able to run Paul Johnson’s option offense. He ran the ball for 215 yards and 3 TDs on 40 rushes. Jordan Mason also got a hat trick with touchdowns and 82 yards. To top off the scoring Jordan Howard had a 5 yard touchdown run.

The defense was slow to start; allowing Virginia Tech to score 3 times within the first 20 minutes, once they were able to settle in and get pressure on Willis they were able to get the stops to prevent this game from becoming a shootout between the 2 teams.

Special teams looked good again tonight while recovering a muffed punt in the 2nd quarter and not allowing return yardage to come back and haunt them like they have in games past.

Yellow Jackets have North Carolina next Saturday at Noon. It’s another game that Tech should be able to win and go into the final stretch of games with a chance to go bowling this year! While nobody has a clear shot from the coastal side of the conference, the Yellow Jackets still have life. But they are going to need help from others.
