Jacksonville, Florida will again be a gracious host to the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party 3:30pm as the Georgia Bulldogs take on the Florida Gators in a pivotal SEC East matchup. Georgia leads the series over Florida at 51-43-1 and dominated the Gators last year 42-7.
Georgia will be coming into this game off of a much needed bye week after getting embarrassed by LSU 36-16. The Bulldogs were outgained 475 to 322, surrendered four turnovers and allowed the Tigers to average 5.4 yards per rush. Things won’t get any easier since Florida is one of the best SEC rushing teams averaging near 200yds a game utilizing three premier running backs in Jordan Scarlett, Lamical Perine, and Dameon Pierce. The Bulldogs will need to get their own running game back on track if they want to have any chance of beating Florida as the game against LSU showed weaknesses when Quarterback Jake Fromm was forced to throw more than usual.
Florida comes in to the matchup red hot as they have won five straight games after losing to the Kentucky Wildcats. Coach Dan Mullen has changed the atmosphere at Florida and has his team looking like legit contenders in the SEC East this season. After being embarrassed last year by the Bulldogs the Gators will be looking for retribution as well. Florida Quarterback Feleipe Franks has thrived under Mullen’s system throwing 15 Touchdowns with only 5 Interceptions. He has upped his passing yards per attempt from 6.3 to 7.7. The sophomore won’t be asked to throw a ton for the Gators to win but will need to be accurate with the shorter throws to keep Georgia’s defense from keying too much against the run.
I think this game will come down to the final seconds and Rodrigo Blankenship will hit a field goal to win it.. Georgia 24 – Florida 21
