On Sunday the 3-4 Atlanta Falcons coming off back to back wins over the Buccaneers and Giants will travel to Washington D.C.’s Fed Ex Field to take on the 5-2 Washington Redskins winners of their last three games. The Washington Redskins have surprisingly been leaning on the seemingly ageless legs of Running Back Adrian Peterson during their winning streak who has teamed up with Redskins prized free agency pickup Quarterback Alex Smith to form a formidable one two combo. Washington’s defense has played well the last few weeks but the last time they saw a team with an offense like the Falcons they were destroyed by the New Orleans Saints so it will be interesting to see how they fare in this matchup. The Redskins did add Ha-Ha Clinton Dix at the trade deadline so they will see an immediate improvement at the safety position.
The Atlanta Falcons will come into this matchup still bruised and battered. Robert Alford joins an already long list of players that will be unable to go in this game. Matt Ryan will probably see plenty of passing opportunities this week against the Redskins secondary who have been unable to consistently stop the deep passing attack. With Devonta Freeman out, we can also expect to see a time share between Tevin Coleman and Ito Smith at the RB position. The Falcons defense will have to make key 3rd down stops because Alex Smith does not make very many mistakes with turnovers. The inability to do this has led to long drives in games the Falcons have lost.
I think the Falcons are due for a road win this week and I think Matt Ryan will carve up this secondary so my prediction for the week is 35-21 Falcons.
