Even though Tobias Oliver didn’t get the start he still came in and showed why he needs to be the starting quarterback going forward. Oliver was able to put up 120 yards on the ground while adding another 104 through the air on 2 passes, which included an 86 yard touchdown pass to Qua Searcy.
The entire offense seemed to click against the North Carolina defense with a total of 565 yards and 461 coming on the ground. Fumbles were a problem yet again as the Yellow Jackets lost 3 fumbles and fumbled 4 total times, which allowed the Tar Heels to come back from a 28-10 deficit in the second half.
The defense was strong in getting stops and forcing turnovers when needed. Saint-Amour had a key interception in the 4th quarter which led to the final field goal from Tech to go up by 10 with less than a minute left.
With this win the Yellow Jackets stay alive in the ACC Coastal and have to win the next 2 ACC matchups against Miami and Virginia, they’ll also need a little bit of help because they need Pitt to drop 2 out of their last 3 and Virginia Tech to lose at least 1 more.
The Yellow Jackets play next Saturday night at 7pm on ESPN2 when they face off against Miami who have dropped the past 3 games.
