Georgia Tech vs Virginia: Senior Day Preview

It seems like yesterday we were walking into Bobby Dodd Stadium to kickoff the 2018 season against Alcorn State. Yet, like it always does, this college football season has flown by and we have arrived at the last home game of the season for Georgia Tech as they look to take down the Virginia Cavaliers.

This has certainly been an interesting season for both of these teams. UVA was picked to finish at the bottom of the Coastal Division while Georgia Tech was expected the finish in the top 3. Through the first quarter of the season, we saw Georgia Tech sitting at 1-3 sitting at the bottom of the division looking straight up at UVA who was sitting at the top.

Now fast forward to November 17th. Georgia Tech has clawed their way back up and can finish no worse than second place with a win against Virginia. Now for Virginia, if they were to win, they would keep their slim hopes of winning the Coastal alive. Regardless, nobody expected GT to be in this position after their first four games of the season, and absolutely nobody expected UVA to be in contention for a Coastal Crown at the Week 12 point of the college football season.

Now For the Game Itself:

Georgia Tech is scorching hot right now, winners of 5 of 6 and have their offense clicking on all cylinders down the stretch. Virginia is winners of 4 of 5 with their lone loss coming to a Pitt team that seems to be headed to Charlotte (the game was played in a monsoon too).  Last week the Jackets beat Miami in a thrilling 27-21 win but they also have to be licking their chops after seeing UVA surrender over 200 rushing yards to Pitt and Liberty in consecutive games leading up to this one.

Every Georgia Tech fan knows that this defense has always struggled with dual threat QBs and UVA has the best one in the ACC. Bryce Perkins has completely turned around this program after playing in Junior College last season. He has an explosive and a fairly accurate arm and has the rushing skills of running back. It will be crucial for the Jackets to keep him inside the pocket and not let him extend plays.

These two teams seem evenly matched and have been for much of their matchup history. The head to head record between these two is 20-19-1 with Georgia Tech with the slight advantage.

Players to Watch For:

Bryce Perkins- UVA- QB

Olamide Zaccheaus- UVA- WR/RB

Jerry Howard- GT- B Back

Tariq Carpenter- GT- S
