Georgia Tech plays host to Notre Dame Tuesday night as the two square off in an ACC battle. These two teams have met 10 times since Notre Dame has joined the ACC and the contests have been decided by an average of 4 points. These two teams always play close and the records really never matter in this series.
Georgia Tech is coming in after being trampled by Louisville on Saturday. Although, the Jackets were short handed as they were down Brandon Alston, AD Gueye, and Jose Alvarado. Alvarado and Gueye have both been cleared to play tonight and will give the Jackets a needed boost on both sides.
Notre Dame creeps in with a 1-4 ACC record but they have lost crunch time battles in Chapel and at home to NC State, tow ranked opponents. The Fighting Irish are led by TJ Gibbs and big man John Mooney who averages 10.7 rebounds a game. Mooney is a real handful and can space the floor as he shoots the 3 ball at a 42.5% rate. He will be the center point of Pastner’s defensive strategy and the matchup zone may be the best solution.
Getting Gueye and Alvarado back will be huge as they have arguably been the best two players for the Jackets in ACC play. No word yet on if Alston is playing or if he even will be available. Regardless, seeing Alvarado back in the lineup will bring some energy and also a headache for Notre Dame.
I expect another close game between these two as each team will be looking to get back on the right track in ACC play.
