After last week’s blowout loss to the Orlando Apollos, the Atlanta Legends will look to bounce back against the San Diego Fleet. The Legends will be looking at improving on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Legends offensive line did not play well and neither did quarterback Matt Simms who just never got into a rhythm throughout the game. According to the Legends head coach Kevin Coyle, the team had a much better practice this week. Coyle also stated that in order for them to have success offensively, they need to establish the running game and also protect the ball. Against Orlando, Simms threw two interceptions and backup quarterback Aaron Murray threw an interception as well.
Defensively, the Legends will have their hands full with quarterback Phillip Nelson. Nelson last week against the San Antonio Commanders threw an interception and completed 5 out of his 10 passes with 68 total passing yards. He also had 20 yards rushing. The Legends will also have to deal with the Fleet’s wide receiver core who had a total of 244 yards receiving.
The Legends last week got exposed by the Apollos with the crossing routes. Coach Coyle emphasized that they must not allow the Fleet receivers’ to get to the perimeter. The Legends also struggled at getting any pressure against the quarterback. If the Legends can establish their offense and contain the Fleet receivers’ then they will have a chance at winning this game.
The Legends and Fleet will kickoff at 8:00 PM tomorrow night on NFL Network. Follow @BirdsInTheBenz through out the game tomorrow.
