Trae Young’s All Star weekend was spectacular.

After winning the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month twice, it was a big start to Trae Young’s budding career. And then was invited to participate in the Skills Challenge and World/USA Rising Star’s basketball game during All Star weekend. Although he did not win Game MVP (he should have) or the Skills Challenge, a 2nd place finish showed the world the potential of a future superstar.
Trae Young came off the bench in the World/USA game but that didn’t stop him from being one of the best players on the floor. His nine point fourth quarter was huge in the USA win. He shot 9-19 from the field (6-11 from 3) which netted him 25 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Rival Luka Doncic seemed to have an off game when out in the spotlight, shooting 5-12 for only 13 points. A good bit of the audience thought Trae Young deserved MVP but at the end it was Kyle Kuzma’s time to shine.
Trae Young was one of eight participants in the Skills Challenge Saturday. He beat De’aarron Fox just like he outplayed him Friday night to get to the semifinals. The much anticipated Trae vs Luka matchup awaited in the semis. Luka almost had Trae beat but a late deep three down sent Trae to the Finals. Another bit of irony came when Trae had to face Jayson Tatum in the finals, Trae had Tatum beat like Luka had him in the semis, but a half court heave won Tatum the game and sent Trae Young to another defeat.
Young averaged 18 points and 7 assists in January and already has four games with over 20 points in February. Luka Doncic is the fan favorite but with the way Young’s stats are improving month by month, it might be hard to argue against him being Rookie Of The Year. Even if Trae doesn’t win, his future is still bright and the Hawks have their Point Guard of the future.
