The Atlanta Legends are finally home after starting the first 2 games of the year on the road. The Legends will be hosting the Birmingham Iron who are currently undefeated. The Iron’s defense will be a difficult challenge for the Legends offense, as the Iron do an excellent job of forcing turnovers and shutting offense down. Many still wonder if backup quarterback Aaron Murray will get any playing time over starting quarterback Matt Simms. Simms through the first 2 games has thrown 3 interceptions, 1 touchdown, and a total of 286 passing yards. The only positive from Simms’ quarterback play is that his completion percentage did increase from 53.6 percent against Orlando to 68 percent against the Fleet.
The Legends offense will look to establish the run similar to how they did against San Diego. Running back Lawrence Pittman was able to rush for 42 yards on 9 carries. However, the Legends offensive line will have to try and handle the Iron’s defensive line which has given teams a lot of issues so far. The Legends defense will have to shut down former University of Alabama running back Trent Richardson. Richardson has looked very good in the first 2 games of the year for the Iron. He has played a big part in the Iron’s success so far this season.
If the Legends offensive line can handle the Iron’s defensive front then the Legends will have a chance. The Legends will also need to prevent from making stupid mistakes as they had some costly penalties against the Fleet that allowed them to extend drives. This game is a important game for the Legends because starting 0-3 will put them at the bottom of the league with Memphis as the two teams that don’t have a win and it will also hurt their chances at possibly making the playoffs come April. Now if the Legends do get a win, it could turn their entire season around. Kickoff against the Iron is at 4:00 PM and follow @BirdInTheBenz throughout the game.
