With Grady Jarrett getting the franchise tag and taking $15.2 million of the Falcons $22 million in cap space, don’t expect them to be a major player in free agency. As it stands right now the Atlanta Falcons only have roughly $7 million to play with. The one caveat would be if they could somehow get a long term deal done with Jarrett. By applying the franchise tag prior to the start of the “new league year” on March 13, they have extended the window with which they can negotiate a contract extension. (July 16). I fully expect the Falcons to get the extension done with him. It is all just matter of how long will it take and for how much? Falcons do have 9 draft picks this year in the NFL draft.

The Falcons have needs on the offensive line, defensive line/pass rusher, cornerback and running back. On the offensive side of the ball Devonta Freeman, Keanu Neal, Ricardo Allen and Deion Jones will all be back after missing the majority of last season. It was reported by ESPN’s Vaughn Mcclure, that the Falcons have started to negotiate a long term deal with Deion Jones who is on the last year of his rookie contract.
No doubt that the Falcons are in the thick of their toughest offseason yet.
