It was a night of rejoice and excitement as United claimed their first win in MLS this season in Foxborough, MA as Ezequiel Barco’s two goals were enough to get the victory over the New England Revolution.

It was also Head Coach Frank De Boer’s first win in MLS since he was appointed manager back in December and his first league win since October of 2016 when he was in charge with Serie A (Italian League) football club Internazionale Milan, quite remarkable it’s been that long.

Overall United played exceptional with the side being on the front foot a lot in the match, plenty of chances and counter attacks were created as United could have possibly scored more than just 2 goals last night. But all that matters is that the 5-Stripes are headed back to Atlanta with 3 points in their pockets and now hope to continue back home to winning ways in the Benz as eagerly fans have been waiting all season for United’s first win at home since their 2nd Leg CCL game vs. Monterrey back in March.

We now hope with this win, United can get back rolling into their winning ways again and be the team they are capable of being.

United came into the night well prepared and rested after another week off from competition as the team looked to get back to winning ways against the New England Revolution who have also had their fare of issues and losses this season.

United brought out a starting lineup which included Brad Guzan in goal, Michael Parkhurst and Brek Shea playing the defensive wingback roles, LGP and Miles played Center Back, Remedi and Laretowicz in the middle, Nagbe playing a Center Attacking Mid role, Tito and Julian on the wings and Josef up top.

United’s bench consisted notably of Ezequiel Barco, Pity Martinez, and Franco Escobar all were subbed into the game.

Things did not start off on the right foot for United as barely 10 seconds into the game Eric Remedi suffered a head collision with an opposing player after both went up for a header. Remedi was down for a couple of minutes and was able to come back in and play, but only for another 10 minutes as Remedi could not continue with the severity of his injury too serious, Barco would replace him.

It was mostly likely he suffered some sort of concussion as he said after the game he could not remember moments of the game, that’s very serious and we hope is injury is not too serious and hope for a speedy recovery.

Atlanta would open up the scoring in the 29th minute as Hector Villalba sprinted past a defender inside the penalty box and passed a ball in the middle which Ezequiel Barco was easily able to tap in for the opener.

Later in the first half United had many chances to double their lead, but were unsuccessful in finding the back of the net to go along with the 2 goal line clearances in the beginning of the game.

About less than 5 minutes into the second half United doubled their lead with an absolute beauty of a goal from Ezequiel Barco as his curling shot from inside the edge of the box whirled it’s way past the goalkeeper and hit the back of the net, a precise finish from the 20 year old.

Many world footballers would struggle to get on target with that shot, but Zeke made it look easy and put United in front 2-0. The result would stay the same through the rest of the match with United having many chances to extend their lead later into the game unfortunately not converting on any, but more importantly they did not concede any either getting the teams first win of the MLS season.

Atlanta United’s next fixture will be at the Benz Saturday, April 20th against western conference opponent F.C. Dallas. The match is set to kickoff at 4 P.M. and will be televised live on ESPN and ESPNDeportes. VAMOS UNITED!
