It is Matchweek number 8 for Atlanta United as they travel to the Midwest to take on Sporting Kansas City this Sunday at Children’s Mercy Park with scheduled kickoff time set for 9 P.M.

The match will be available to watch live on Fox Sports 1 or Fox Deportes.

Everyone knows this will be a very difficult matchup for United as SKC are a great team at home and one of the best and most consistent teams in the league. SKC has made the MLS playoffs for seven straight seasons and won the MLS Cup once in that span back in 2013 and have won 3 U.S. Open Cups since 2012. They have a very impressive resume and resilient team that has been difficult to play against in any type of environment so United must be on their best game if they want a chance to compete with the very competitive Western Conference side.

Atlanta are coming off a win last week against the Colorado Rapids by a score of 1-0 off a Julian Gressel goal in the 75th minute while SKC are coming off a thriller they had last weekend against the New England Revolution in which they were down 3-1 and 4-2 at one point, but they came back late in the game to capitalize with another two goals and the matching resulting in a 4-4 draw, what a game that must have been.

This week we are hopeful that Pity Martinez will slowly, but surely start to find some form of rhythm this week and provide a great performance against a challenging team this week and now with the lineup coming to shape. Remedi is likely to back in the Starting XI after he recovers fully from his injury, this team can get back on track to consistently winning games and putting up great performances just like our previous seasons that we’ve had. However, this one will be one of the toughest of the season we want to play spoils and bring the points back home.

Atlanta’s Lineup for Sunday’s match will likely be the same as we saw last week vs the Rapids with Brad Guzan in goal, in the defense from left to right, Shea, LGP, Miles and Franco, in the midfield Jeff Larentowicz and Darlington Nagbe will hold things down, Pity will be in his Center Attacking Mid Position with Ezequiel Barco on the left and Julian Gressel on the right by his side and of course the reigning MLS MVP and king Josef Martinez up top.

This lineup will probably be the Starting Lineup for the rest of the season of course depending on injuries we hope won’t happen and other occurrences. Midfielder Eric Remedi will be added back in the lineup when he returns from his injury in place of Jeff Larentowicz, he’s back in training and looks to be in great shape so fantastic news there. In this weeks injury report United announced that George Bello will be out for about a time period of 2-3 months with an abductor injury. Seems like he was never able to fully recover since he picked up this injury back in February when United played in CCL down in Costa Rica vs Herediano.

Bello tried to get back in form with ATLUTD 2, but unfortunately he re-aggravated his injury twice this season, once back in March on a rehabilitation assignment and then recently on Tuesday when he was back in training with the first team. We wish George Bello a speedy recovery and a soon return to the team. Another 3 players will be unavailable for this week’s game, Brandon Vazquez, Chris Goslin and Kevin Kratz are still out with their injuries and their timeable returns to the team are questionable. All time in the series history between Atlanta United and SKC there have been 2 matches played between the two sides with United picking up a late goal by former player Jacob Peterson to tie the game 1-1 in their first meeting back in season one and then the second meeting in Atlanta where SKC won 2-0, although in that game Guzan was sent off in the first half for challenge outside the box and United surely scored a goal, but was ruled offside by the referee, but it really was not offside, we really had a lot of issues with referees last season as most of you know.

Now is the perfect time for United to show that they still have potential to be a dangerous team this season and finish in the top of MLS this season, there is still a lot of time for United to pick up the pace and climb up the Eastern Conference Table, but right now all of the focus is on SKC this Sunday and getting the most important and beneficial result, a victory.

Scheduled Kickoff between Sporting Kansas City and Atlanta United will be at 9 P.M. on Sunday, May 5th at Children’s Mercy Park with the game being televised live on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes. VAMOS UNTED!
