What a match that was Sunday Night!

Atlanta United earned an impressive victory in Kansas City Sunday Night by the score of 3-0 with goals coming from Ezequiel Barco and Josef Martinez who scored twice in the game.

This definitely was the best match this MLS season by the United squad and man was it finally enjoyable and entertaining to watch; especially in the second half where United flat out dominated SKC at their own place. That is something very difficult to do and very rare for MLS teams to escape with points. But Atlanta did exactly just that.

Atlanta put themselves in front in the 39th minute when Josef Martinez was able to score off a spilled ball by the GK after Barco’s strong shot from distance and with no hesitation Josef put it in the back of the net just before the GK was able to get to the ball and United had the lead going into the half.

The second half was a dominant performance and display by our 5-Stripes as they had chance after chance after chance to score and out of what seemed like an eternity of opportunities United got their second when Ezequiel Barco’s shot from just outside the box was able to bend towards the near left post and sneak in past the post and GK, a truly remarkable and spectacular goal by Zeke which gave United the 2-0 lead early in the second half.

Less than 30 minutes later, Josef Martinez would seal the deal in the 76th minute as a counter attack by United gave them the chance to capitalize and finish off the match and so they did as Martinez would dribble through a few defenders and power a shot past the GK and make it 3-0 for United.

That was Josef’s second of the night and fourth of the season, tying Barco for top goalscorer on the team.

The match would finish by a final result of 3-0 for Atlanta United as the team now faces a difficult stretch of games in a very limited amount of time for recovery and preparation and now without Zeke, it’s going to be tougher so we hope guys like Tito and Pity can step and fill in his role.

Atlanta United’s next match would come a short time this week on Wednesday, May 8th as they took on Toronto F.C. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium as they look to continue their winning ways as they look for their third straight win for the first time this MLS Season.

United’s starting eleven was pretty much similar to the one Head Coach Frank De Boer put out against Sporting Kansas City, except for Break Shea replacing Michael Parkhurst at the left-back position and Tito filling in for Barco’s spot at the Left Wing and Attacking Mid Position.

In Barco’s absence, this should be a great opportunity for Tito Villalba And Pity Martinez to show their talented abilities and skills as Zeke was our best player to start off the MLS season so they have a big task at hand now to fill in his spot while he’s gone at the U-20 World Cup in Poland.

Atlanta would begin the match straight out of the gates as they quickly pressed and countered on Toronto’s midfield and defense who were caught off guard. In the 18th minute Pity Martinez was given a great chance to score his first MLS goal in a great free kick position. His shot was saved by the goalkeeper, but Josef pounced on the loose ball and crossed the ball into the box where a surge of United players came in and there was Tito at the right position and time to give United the lead 1-0.

Throughout the rest of the half United kept on pressing and attacking, eventually slowing down a bit but still a threat and in some cases were close to getting a double including Tito Villaba who’s shot hit the post in the 40th minute Josef Martinez had numerous chances to get his 5th goal of the season to add on his first assist of the season which came off Tito’s goal earlier.

In the Second Half United’s second goal came in the 67th minute as Julian Gressel scored from inside the box as he dribbled in, cutting inside to the left and with the strike it took off a defender it goes into the goal with no problem, United now would lead 2-0 and that’s how the match would end.

Even though Atlanta could’ve scored more with some chances going off the woodwork and some ruled offsides it was true and 100% full team effort from the guys and they got the most important reward of the game which was the victory and 3 points, and sweet revenge against Toronto.

Three wins in a row and our first win against Toronto F.C. means we have beaten every MLS team now since United began their first season back in 2017, man that seems like yesterday, what a ride it’s been. Let’s keep it going and make it 4 in a row against that hated Orlando team from Disneyland. GIVE EM’ HELL FIVE STRIPES!

Atlanta’s next fixture will be on Mother’s Day Sunday, May 12 vs. Orlando City SC at the Benz. Scheduled kickoff time is set for 2:30 P.M. and the match will be televised live on FOX. VAMOS UNITED!
