Atlanta United keep continuing to break and make new MLS records.

United have now won 5 in a row for the first time in the club’s history and in those five victories they have kept clean sheets in all of those matches. Part of that is their is much improvement in the defense with LGP and Miles Robinson holding down the fort in the middle along with Franco Escobar and Michael Parkhurst rotating with Break Shea on the left side every other game or so and Brad Guzan making huge saves in games where the opposing team could have easily scored if it was not for his expertise and experience in goal.

Atlanta United got their three game road trip started on the west coast in Canada as they took on the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place Stadium. The 5-Stripes came in looking to keep rolling and continuing their winning ways after coming off a win at home vs. Orlando as Pity Martinez scored his first goal for the side.

They would be without two occasional starters including midfielder Darlington Nagbe and defender Michael Parkhurst who stayed behind in Atlanta to rest as United have had a tough and constant stretch of matches recently, this meant that the rotation would be shuffled around and the possibility of new players to be introduced into the Starting XI for the match against Vancouver. Jeff Larentowicz would be playing in place of Nagbe at Center Midfield alongside Eric Remedi, Justin Meram would make his starting debut with the team as he played out on the left side in front of Break Shea who was in at LB replacing Parkhurst. Tito Villalba would be moved off to the right side of the attacking midfield in place of Julian Gressel who was on the bench and came into the match during the second half in place of Meram and Florentin Pogba would make his starting debut at centerback in place of Miles Robinson who was also on the bench.

Atlanta would open the scoring just inside the 20 minute mark as Josef Martinez would break the deadlock with his signature penalty kick run up and strike into the right side of the goal and back of the net to make it 1-0 for the visitors and that’s how the match would stay and finish at the end. United would secure five wins in a row with all of them being clean sheets, something that has never happened in MLS history ever before.

Atlanta United’s next match will be against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey this Sunday May, 19th at 5:00 P.M. and available to watch live on Fox Sports 1, Fox Deportes and Fox Sports GO. Matches between these two teams have been very intense and competitive in the past and this next matchup will likely not disappoint either as these two teams have developed a secret rivalry between each other mainly being that both teams finish high in the Eastern Conference Standings Table and compete for a top spot and title for best MLS team in the Eastern Conference.

Last season Atlanta United won MLS Cup and the New York Red Bulls won the Supporters Shield at the end of the regular season which went down until the last week of the MLS Season as both United and NYRB went down to the wire as United lost on the last day vs. Toronto F.C. in a match to forget in which they lost 4-1 and even worse, lost the supporters shield to the Red Bulls.

United wanted revenge and they got a rematch vs the Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals as United got their wish and took care of business in the first match at home in which they won 3-0 and the second leg lost 1-0, but United would go through 3-1 on aggregate and would go on to win MLS Cup vs. the Portland Timbers. Coming into the match United sit at third place with 20 points in the eastern conference standings tied with the Montreal Impact, United have a better goal difference and are ahead of them for that reason. The New York Red Bulls sit at 9th place in the Eastern Conference table with 14 points, six behind United. Atlanta United look to get their first win at Red Bull Arena as Nagbe and Parkhurst should return to the starting lineup and Gressel and Robinson back in the starting eleven as well. VAMOS UNITED!
