MLS Match Preview: Atlanta head to Seattle for a competitive showdown

After advancing to the U.S. Open Cup Semifinals with a victory over Saint Louis on Wednesday, the 5-Stripes travel to the Pacific Northwest as they get set to take on a tough competitor in a hostile environment. Playing against Seattle is no easy task as they are one of the more better and experienced teams in the league, home or away it’s difficult to secure all three points and achieving that is a big success, Atlanta will be looking to do exactly that this Sunday at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.

All-Time, these two opponents have taken on each other twice, once in Atlanta and Seattle in which both matches ended in draws. Nothing has separated these two teams so far and looking back at those matches both teams looked evenly matched against each other on the field and when comparing the team rosters together side by side on paper. Atlanta United right now sit at 3rd place in the Eastern Conference Standings with 30 points, tied with Montreal but ahead on goal difference.

D.C United sit at 2nd place with 32 points and Philadelphia sit at the top of the table with 36 points, quite impressive for a team that nobody expected to even see above the playoff zone. Seattle sits at 3rd place as well in the Western Conference Standings with 32 points while the LA Galaxy are in 2nd with 34 points and the League Leaders LAFC at the top with an outstanding 46 points and are the big favorites to win the Supporters Shield and MLS Cup, they look very identical to the 2018 United Championship team from last season. In the injury report, Tito and Zeke are still out with their injuries and they likely will be expected back in the next week or two, Zeke more likely earlier than Tito. Kevin Kratz and his calf injury is still holding him out with training with the first team and he’s been out for a good amount of time now, when he comes back he will likely get some minutes with ATLUTD2 before coming back to the first team. LGP is back from his last suspension in which he missed the match vs. the Red Bulls because of a red card he got in the match vs. Chicago, big need especially for our defense whose rotation switches mostly every other match.

Head Coach Frank De Boer will likely role out the same lineup he put out on Wednesday with maybe a few minor changes in the First XI. VAMOS UNITED!

The match between Atlanta United and Seattle Sounders will be on Sunday, July 14th at 4:00 PM live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.
